About the Presenter

Imagine the courage it takes to run a marathon—and the courage it takes to write about it.

Julie B. Hughes personifies courage. She's not just a marathoner and author, she's a mother and a physical therapist. Julie isn't daunted by anything, whether it's writing about her challenging childhood, her running, or her family's journey through two cancer diagnoses. She's bold, forthright, and generous with the lessons she's learned and the strength she's uncovered.

Julie founded the Run to Write Club to bring together her dual passions for movement and writing within a supportive community. She encourages members to tackle their challenges one step and one word at a time, believing in the therapeutic nature of storytelling. Her books and poetry inspire readers to approach life's difficulties with a spirit of curiosity, courage, and faith.

Julie resides in Central New York with her husband and two children.

Paige's Butterfly Run

Saturday, March 22, 2025
9:00am to 2pm
Location:
Elevate Fitness Dewitt

Reservations due:  March 21

$33.00

Women TIES and the Women's Athletic Network love to media sponsor community events. This one is an indoor spinning event, Pedaling 4 Paige. It is a great way to put your physical, mental, and emotional energy towards something much bigger: Raising funds to fight pediatric cancer in Central New York.

Pedaling 4 Paige will have a virtual event option and live event option. There will only be 28 bikes available for each live session at Elevate Fitness in Dewitt. Register online to spin for 1 hour in honor of children and families who have been touched by a diagnosis of pediatric cancer and other blood disorders. Participants can register for one or up to all three 1 hour sessions led by a cycling instructor.

Proceeds from the event benefit children and their families at the Dr. William J. Waters Center for Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders at Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital, Syracuse, New York.

About the Presenter

In 1993, Paige Yeomans Arnold was a seemingly healthy 6-year-old first grader at Palmer Elementary School in Baldwinsville, NY, when she was diagnosed with leukemia. Paige was then treated at what is now the Dr. William J. Waters Center for Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders at Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital in Syracuse, NY. Paige ultimately underwent a bone marrow transplant to cure her leukemia at Boston Children's Hospital in 1994. Sadly, complications from the transplant led to her death in August of that year.

In the Spring of 1997, Paige's parents were approached by a group of teachers at Palmer Elementary who wished to honor Paige in what would have been her last year at the school. In short order, it was decided that a walk\run event would be organized. All proceeds were slated to benefit a college scholarship fund and the Center for Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders in Paige's memory. The butterfly was selected as a symbol of the event because she was so fond of them and because they typified her: beautiful and gentle but strong beyond imagining.

After hosting the event at Palmer Elementary from 1997 to 2007, Paige's Butterfly Run came to downtown Syracuse in 2008 with the Taste of Syracuse Festival.

Since its inception in 1997, Paige's Butterfly Run has raised over $5,000,000 to support cancer research and patient programs at the William J. Waters Center for Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders at Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital.

Women TIES Media Sponsored Event: The Women's Capital Summit

Gwen Young Featuring:
Gwen Young
President
Women Business Collaborative

Cost: Free  (Check their website for payment information )

Women TIES is proud to media sponsor events we feel are essential for women entrepreneurs to know about.

EVENT: May 21st and May 22nd

The Women's Capital Summit is the must-attend conference for women entrepreneurs seeking essential funding and for investors looking to discover high-potential, women-owned businesses. This opportunity brings together top innovators, investors, and thought leaders to drive economic growth and close the gender funding gap.

Women-owned businesses represent 39.1% of all U.S. firms, employ 12.2 million people, and generate $2.7 trillion in revenue (Wells Fargo, 2024). Yet, women founders receive only 2% of venture capital funding—a gap that must be closed. The Women's Capital Summit is designed to change this narrative by fostering strategic partnerships and unlocking new pathways for growth.

The Summit will include:

*Investor Matchmaking: Sessions to connect women entrepreneurs with investors.

*Keynote Addresses: Hear from influential leaders and women entrepreneurs who have navigated the challenges of securing investment.

*Expert Panels: Discussions on current trends in entrepreneurship and investment, the future of women-led businesses, and strategies for overcoming funding obstacles.

*Networking Sessions: These are opportunities for informal networking, enabling attendees to forge valuable connections with peers, mentors, and industry leaders.
