Description: Though hope exists for all of us, sometimes it must be found through others. The mission of Maureen's Hope is to offer support and assistance to people facing the challenges of cancer and other life threatening illness. There are many needs that patients have when faced with a life altering disease that can not be met by the medical community and we hope to fulfill some of those needs. Maureen's Hope caters to the personal needs of individuals facing these challenges by providing gift baskets and services that offer comfort and strength as well as helping to improve their quality of life. Maureen's Hope Foundation has been able to provide over 400 baskets to cancer patients over the past five years. We have also provided patients with a cleaning service for their home; meals for the family; a wig and/or hats; complementary therapy such as reiki or massage; and assistance with fundraising events to help families with medical expenses.
Maureen's Hope also helps to empower and encourage people facing an illness by offering a variety of programs that offer hope, inspiration and education to patients. Guest speakers for these programs include motivational speakers, health care providers and community representatives. Maureen's Hope is funded through grants, corporate donations and fundraising events.

Secure Inspirational Jewelry Store. The story behind our bracelets have made them a meaningful gift to share with someone special and all proceeds benefit Maureen's Hope Foundation. While my sister Maureen was battling cancer she wore a fun and inspirational bracelet from Chicos throughout her journey. While she was wearing a less than flattering hospital gown her bracelet became a symbol of normalcy and represented the fun spirited person she was. May you get the same joy from your bracelet and let it bring out your Live, Love, Laugh attitude! Enjoy!

Description: A support and resource center committed to empowering individuals, families, and communities to redefine beauty and health through initiatives that increase self-esteem, improve body image and introduce alternatives to dangerous desires for perfection; and to providing outreach, advocacy and educational services to those impacted by eating disorders, disordered eating and body dissatisfaction. |
| |
Profile: Mary Ellen Clausen is widely recognized as an innovative leader in eating disorder prevention, education and advocacy. After her two daughters struggled with eating disorders and her family learned of the severe lack of eating disorders resources, Mary Ellen envisioned a center that could offer support, encouragement and hope to those impacted by eating disorders. Out of her vision, Ophelia's Place was founded in 2002. Through its comprehensive resource center, peer run supports groups, annual conference, education campaigns, and public awareness-raising efforts Ophelia's Place continues to grow exponentially and reaches thousands of people annually.
Mary Ellen has presented nationally on college and high school campuses, to professional organizations and associations, and for congressional briefings. She has provided testimony for public hearings with New York State's Office of Mental Health and Department of Health and has effectively lobbied on both the state and federal level for mental health parity and eating disorders legislation. Working with top Senate leaders in the State of New York, Mary Ellen encouraged the development of legislation designed to meet the needs of consumers seeking and accessing eating disorder and mental health care within the State. Additionally, she was invited to serve on the Child Performer Advisory Board for the NY State Dept. of Labor.
